To get Vent or Ts for XP chan isnt a bad idea, but i think it's stupid to make it mandatory, because not all players got a mic..

How much does a good microphone costs today? Less then 20€ for the best one you can find.

Well something like that so it isnt that expensive to get a reasonable one

Yep so even the youngest players should be able to afford one, or harrass their parents untill they get one, and for the older crowd well have a bowl of serial insted of a pizza one night and there u go a nice new microphone

I was the one reporting the evade to an admin back then and expected the admin to log that somewhere, so people like I don't get accused by another admin afterwards. You also mentioned this in another thread, but i forgive you.

Ontopic : I try to say that the onesided use of voice tools (one team only or different numbers of players per team) gives advantages. Rather use it not at all since the oldschool players want to listen to music and relax anyway, instead of arguing with "wannabe's" on voice who do not scrim regularly. If you want competitive play don't play pickup (=public). Public is a term for not plannig and discussing lineups, tactics and builds despite the obvious hero roles, at least for me.

because, 2.1.x serverversion (wich is used because it's actually free to host), does not work with mac. But the 2.3.x version works with mac.

Im not an XP user, but just thought I would add some thoughts. Vent works with Mac. It depends on the codec used for voice. Speex works, and I have a server I use with clan mates to play Clan Wars. Nothing wrong with it. Just a different codec basically. The server has to be setup that way otherwise if its GSM then they wont be able to connect. There's really no difference at all in sound quality. I pay a very small amount for the server each month, but it does what I need. I think if you try and offer a sever which can be used by the "public", I say that loosely, as its not really, but its still not people you know at all, then you have the problem of people finding out passwords etc and using it for other dota games. Another thing which hasn't been mentioned is, what is stopping users from switching to other team to listen in on team talk, if its on same server with no password restrictions. You would need administrators to setup channels for each game. Although you don't expect players from XP to do this, it still is possible.

I always use vent when I play and I rarely play alone. But for me to join another server with ppl. having badly adjusted mics and not being able to speak properly english would be totally annoying. Mainly the language barrier would be a problem. I'm not the greatest to english and I doubt everybody is better than me, but hey maybe? :). Imagine playing with a dude whom english is his native language? I wouldn't be able to understand anything because he would be speaking lightning fast.
